With the arrival of autumn and winter, low temperatures appear and with them some health imbalances related to these.
On this occasion we present Plant Drugs used to eliminate Phlegm and Secretions that the organism produces and deposits in the pharynx, larynx, trachea and bronchi, these are called Expectorant Plant Drugs. On the other hand and associated with the use of Expectorants, Demulcent Plant Drugs are usually used, whose non-fatty active principles soften, relax and protect the skin and mucous membranes.

Below is presented a series of Plant Drugs whose pharmacological actions are mainly Expectorant and Demulcent:

Ivy Extracts (Hedera helix L.) 

This plant is native to Europe, although it is widely distributed in temperate regions. In our country it is cultivated as an ornamental plant in gardens presenting different shapes and colors in its foliage.
As a curiosity, in antiquity it was associated with fidelity and immortality because it is a plant that lives up to 500 years.

Its active principles confer various properties: Expectorant, Antispasmodic, Antibacterial and Analgesic

In formulations for Internal use it is used to treat spasmodic cough and bronchitis. In dentistry it is part of the formulation of mouth rinses to control bacterial plaque formation and as caries prevention. In formulations for External use it is used for anticellulite treatments in cream and soap formulations contributing to the elimination of toxins and lipids. The saponins produce an increase in cutaneous absorption and favor the diffusion of other active principles.
