Among its active principles is organic sulfur, such as S-methylcysteine sulfoxide, glucosinolates, inositol, mucilages, glucuronic acid, vitamins A, B complex, C, E, K and U. The seeds contain erucic, oleic and linoleic acids.

It is indicated in treatments of gastroduodenal ulcer, varicose ulcers, eczemas and dermatitis. Experimentally, in oncological pathologies.
It is contraindicated in treatments with warfarin-type anticoagulants and in cases of hypothyroidism since its prolonged use can produce hypofunction of the thyroid gland.
