The Kola Nut or Kola Tree is a CNS stimulant, comparable to Tea or Coffee, it is anti-fatigue, lipolytic, cardiotonic, digestive and diuretic. It contains caffeine (1.0-2.5% w/w) and traces of theobromine and theophylline.
The tannin content (catechol and epicatechol), justify its astringent properties. Potassium salts generate a diuretic effect.
It is used to increase physical and intellectual performance helping to improve concentration, resistance to fatigue and generating a feeling of well-being.
Also as an energizer in asthenia, hypotonias, hypotension, bradycardia, and convalescence. It is used in cases of hyposecretory dyspepsia. It is used as an adjuvant in treatments for overweight.
