Resveratrol is a phyto-compound found in fruits and their seeds. It is attributed with antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, cholesterol-lowering, and hypoglycemic actions, among others. Despite its commercial popularity, there is no scientific evidence of these effects in humans.
Regarding grape seed extracts, the resveratrol content is not quantified; instead, total polyphenols (including anthocyanosides, leucoanthocyanosides, flavonoids, etc.) are measured, which do have proven pharmacological activity (antioxidant, vasoprotective, venotonic, etc.).
On the other hand, the fruits are rich in vitamins and have restorative properties, while the seed oil is hypolipidemic. The leaves exhibit venotonic, vasoprotective, astringent, and diuretic actions.
