Arbutin possesses specific antimicrobial action on the urinary tract. This active principle is hydrolyzed by the action of intestinal bacterial flora, generating hydroquinone which is eliminated through the kidneys.

Its re-epithelializing properties are justified by the action of allantoin. It has been observed in vitro that Uva Ursi extracts inhibit melanin synthesis, which is why they are experimentally used for skin whitening.

It is used in treatments of urinary infections such as cystitis, pyelonephritis, urethritis, ureteritis, lithiasis, prostatitis.

Topically, it is used to treat wounds, dermal, oral or corneal ulcerations. Also dermatitis, erythema, vulvovaginitis, pruritus, conjunctivitis and blepharitis.
