In older adults, the consumption of ginseng is highly recommended due to its remarkable energizing capacity and immune-stimulating function. Especially for people at risk from COVID-19 and Influenza viruses, ginseng provides a significant boost to defenses. Ginseng is consumed as a tincture or in tablets. Similarly, we can mention astragalus (an Asian plant) and cat's claw (an Amazonian species). Unlike ginseng, both can be given not only to older adults but also to young adults. Among their qualities is anti-inflammatory activity, which is very important for reducing joint pain that accompanies flu processes.

In menopausal women, as well as in adult men, Peruvian maca is highly recommended. Clinical trials have shown energizing effects and symptom control in women, particularly for menopausal symptoms such as hot flashes. In men, it has been shown to improve sexual energy and muscle strength. The use of maca for winter illnesses is highly recommended, given the energy loss that occurs during the winter. It is consumed in the form of tablets, capsules, or tincture.
Finally, we can mention other products that can perfectly support the immune-stimulation process, such as garlic and turmeric (the latter also provides antioxidant, liver-protective, and anti-inflammatory effects). Both can be incorporated culinary-wise, as well as in tinctures and tablets. In conclusion, immunity is a collaborative effort between the patient and their doctor, as often the body’s own effort is not enough. Proper information is essential during these times, as the medical saying goes: “a well-informed patient reduces hospital stay time.”
